Question's The Killing Stone has announced that the upcoming 1.0 launch on February 18th will instead be an Early Access one due to playtester feedback that suggested wanting more story with additional voice-acted content, along with freedom to solve puzzles without being "spoon-fed" solutions.
Here is what the Early Access version players will get to play on February 18th:
All three primary story arcs (and associated decks of cards). one for each family member
All optional missions called Rituals
A total of three demon lord opponents across the critical path and optional content
What will be missing in the EA launch, as they look ahead to 1.0 in the future, will be the game's endgame arc, called The Reckoning. The updates during the EA period will include things such as expansion and refinement to voiced narrative content, pacing, presentation, overall story clarity/comprehension throughout the game, and balance/tuning to the deckbuilding card mechanic.
Players can pick The Killing Stone up when it releases into Early Access on February 18th on Steam.
Why We're Excited
What got me wanting to write about this one is the fact that the reason for the switch of what kind of release (1.0 full launch to Early Access), is that playtesters wanted more of the story. This shows me that the narrative and the performances from Liam O'Brien and Emma Gregory are worth the price of admission of this living board game deckbuilder.
