Whisper Mountain Outbreak Early Access Preview | What Could Possibly Go Wrong?

I’ve been a huge fan of zombie games like Resident Evil and Left 4 Dead for a very long time. They were some of my first games as a kid (that I probably shouldn’t have been playing at that age). And I still love the genre and all of the different ways that zombies have evolved and changed as baddies over the years.

Whisper Mountain Outbreak from Toge Productions is an online multiplayer survival horror game currently in early access on Steam. In the game you can play with up to four players across a handful of levels fending off hordes of zombies and other horrific creatures. But that’s not all, you’ll have to solve puzzles, collect items and much more all while fighting for your life.

In the game you’ll be equipped with a bat only to start, but you’ll likely find a handgun right away as you head into your first level. You and your teammates share weapons and ammo so you’ll have to decide amongst yourselves who gets what. I found myself most enjoying the katana sword as my melee weapon because, despite it taking up a lot of stamina quite quickly, it slices through enemies in only one or two hits.

Your main goal on each level is to find a package and bring it back to your car in order to escape. In order to do that you’ll have to fight through enemies while also solving puzzles, some of which Resident Evil fans might recognize. Sometimes these puzzles are pretty straight forward while other times you’ll have to go into multiple rooms in order to solve them. You have to hurry though, because every few minutes a horde of enemies will attack.

Each time that you return after completing a level you’ll get to keep all of the gear and materials that you picked up allowing you to upgrade yourselves. You’ll be able to upgrade your health, stamina and your inventory space so you can hold more items. You can also put items away in an item box and keep them for later levels.

As you can imagine the levels will go up in difficulty and there will be certain levels where you have a time limit for completing your mission. My friends and I never struggled too much with the levels until the very end when we were stumped by a puzzle. But overall, we had a great time solving them, fighting off rude dudes and bringing home the bacon - so to speak.

Whisper Mountain Outbreak, while it is currently in Early Access, is already a really great time. I played it for a few hours, both just me and one other friend and we didn’t find the difficulty level to be too much. You can grab the game now on Steam for $7.99 and only one person needs to own the game. Other players can simply download the Friend Pass on the Steam page to join in on the action.
