Onirism is an Awesome Adventure Game About Saving Your Stuffed Animal
I’m pretty protective over my stuffed animals. I’ve been known to give a few away to my nieces and nephews, but that is because I love them. If anyone else tried to take one, they would be met with my claws. In Onirism, from developer Crimson Tales, you play as young girl Carol on a quest to save her favorite plushie Bunbun by going on a wild journey through fantastical worlds.
The game’s story mode starts out pretty quick. After Bunbun is stolen, players are thrust into a colorful yet dangerous world. At first Carol is only equipped with her adorable pink umbrella, but it isn’t long before you pick up a variety of other weapons to take on the strange slimes and other enemies coming for her.
Despite being a young girl, Carol is pretty limber. She can sprint, slide and jump in order to traverse the environment. She hits pretty hard with her umbrella, but you’ll find weapons like the Blunderbuss or Hydra Gun that can really pack a punch against foes. And the game doesn’t give you much time to learn how to use these items - you’ll be forced to fight enemies nearly right away, so you’ll have to pick things up quickly.
At the beginning, you’re able to choose your difficulty level. I chose the difficulty level that was right in the middle and seemed like the “normal” choice and the fights, while challenging, weren’t difficult with Carol’s new arsenal. I can imagine if you boosted your difficulty things would be way different and would prove very challenging for players looking to test their skills.
What I love most about Onirism is how beautiful the worlds are and I can’t wait to uncover even more as it gets closer to full release. It seems strange to take down enemies as a little girl but, and this may sound strange, it kind of just makes sense in this world. Carol may be small but she is a funny and powerful protagonist that’s pretty much ready to take on anything.
The Early Access version of the game includes 14 levels, local co-op, local versus and English or French language options. And the final version will include even more content. The team’s goal is to continue to use the community’s feedback to help them with improving the game.
Onirism is available in Early Access on Steam now.
