Building Relationships Preview - Are You a Bottom Floor or A Rooftop?
I’m a huge fan of dating sims. And, honestly, the weirder the better. Okay, maybe within reason. But, the point is that even if you’re romancing inanimate objects, I’m all for it. Everyone has their thing, right? And if your thing is buildings, like houses, windmills, etc. then have I got the game for you.
Building Relationships from developer Tan Ant Games is a dating sim adventure game where you play as a house looking for their next true love. You’ve just arrived on an island inhabited by other buildings each with their own personalities. Your goal is to meet eligible bachelorx pads and find the one that you think you’re meant to be with.
When you load into the demo of the game you’re introduced to the concept of the bachelorx pads and you’re given a bit of guidance as to where you can start looking for your next romantic partner. Traversal is a little clunky, but in the best way. You’re a house, after all, it’s not like you’ve got legs to just walk around the island. As you explore you’ll meet other buildings who will give you quests or ask you questions.
There are two dateable structures in the game, Mille, a windmill and Tenet a himbo tent. You’ll get to meet both of them in the demo and take them on a date. The date involves putting together furniture while they watch and give you compliments about how well you’re doing. It’s honestly hilarious and it makes me excited to see what other shenanigans players will be able to get up to in the full version.
You can also explore the island a bit and go fishing. Fish in this universe are cars, because that just makes sense. The fishing mini-game is reminiscent of the fishing in Stardew Valley or Cult of the Lamb. It’s not too difficult and you’re rewarded with a nice car for your efforts.
I hope that we won’t have to wait too long for the full version of Building Relationships because I can’t wait to play it. There’s something really charming about both the concept and the characters - everything is so wonderfully silly and fun. This is one to keep an eye out for!
Building Relationships is available to wishlist on Steam now.
