Written and created by inkle, the team behind Heaven’s Vault, Overboard!, and A Highland Song, the narrative deduction meets audio drama game TR-49 launches today on Steam via PC and Mac as well as iOS.

In TR-49, a WWII-era machine comes to life, and you hear a voice saying your name. This voice asks you to find a stolen book of which he only knows the title, and time is running out. The machine contains an archive of obscure books, letters, and journals spanning 50 years of research on how to crack the code of reality.

Players will navigate the archive, link the texts together, uncover the creator’s secrets, and communicate with the speaker to figure out your role in this mystery. It’s up to you to find the book at the core of the machine before it’s too late.

The game takes inspiration from other narrative deduction games like Type Help, Her Story, The Roottrees are Dead, and Return of the Obra Dinn, and audio dramas like The Magnus Archives and ars PARADOXICA.

You can pick up TR-49 today for $6.99 USD on Steam via PC and Mac, and iOS.

Why We’re Excited

inkle makes beautiful titles and gripping narrative stories in their past games. The setting of a mysterious machine suddenly coming to life and asking for help finding a long-lost book is super intriguing to me. I might give my dumb brain a challenge by hopping in and helping save the day.
