Two Falls: Nishu Takuatshina Has a Heartwrenching, Emotional Narrative

Two Falls: Nishu Takuatshina from developer Unreliable Narrators received high praise when it was released for PC last year in November. Now available on PlayStation and Xbox Series X/S, I took the opportunity to play a couple hours of the game and have so far enjoyed this emotional narrative.

Two Falls: Nishu Takuatshina follows two main characters, Jeanne, a young woman from France who is sailing to Canada when her ship crashes and Maikan, an Innu man who discovers a butchered wolf in the woods and is angered by the brutal scene. Throughout the game you’ll make choices for each character which will shape the way that they act and respond to future situations.

The rest of the game plays like a walking simulator where you play as both characters as they venture around the Canadian wilderness. The voice acting here is well done and helps to immerse you in the game. You’ll find yourself worrying about each of the characters and hoping that this cruel world will have mercy on them. It has a fantastic atmosphere as well, and feels like a historical fiction tale you might learn about in school. All of these elements together make for a haunting and impactful experience.

Two Falls covers a lot of cultural conflict, something that was only touched on a bit during my couple of hours with the game. But it’s a hugely important story that isn’t often covered in the video game medium, so I’m glad to see it released on console to give an even wider audience of players a chance to experience it.

Two Falls: Nishu Takuatshina is available now on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
