Lane-Based Deckbuilder The Royal Writ Gets August Release Date

Hungarian indie developers Save Sloth Studios alongside indie publisher Yogscast Games announced today that their upcoming hilariously ruthless lane-based deckbuilder, The Royal Writ, heads to PC via Steam on August 7th, 2025.

Set in the medieval realm of Aranfold, The Royal Writ begins with King Mikolt the Second issuing a royal decree to the Bandit Leader who has been looting the kingdom. When his very sternly written letter fails, the King is forced to unleash his loyal legion of lizards, bugs, bats and other (barely qualified) fighters to restore order through turn-based violence.

In the game, players must build up the perfect squad of cannon-fodder and clutch-carrying creatures, balancing strategy and a slight disregard for their troops’ feelings. With a deck limit and permanent death looming, fighters can be upgraded between battles through various events, from horse racing to a trip to the dentist, earning relics and gear to help dodge hazards.

The Royal Writ will launch on August 7th, 2025 for PC via Steam. Wishlist the game now to stay up to date on future announcements.
