Kulebra and the Souls of Limbo is a Colorful and Thoughtful Journey
While saying goodbye is hard, it can also be beautiful.
Kulebra and the Souls of Limbo is a side-scrolling puzzle game where you play as the titular Kulebra, a snake who awakens in the afterlife with no memory of their past. After spending a little bit of time in Limbo, you start to notice that the residents that live there are repeating the same day over and over, with no memory of it. Thankfully, you’re able to remember what happened on the previous day and can help out the residents with this lucky ability.
What caught my eye about the game right away was its visual style. The world looks as though everyone and everything is made out of paper or cardboard. It’s clear that the team was inspired by their Latin American culture and have created an incredibly unique world to honor that. Not only does it have an incredibly bright color palette, but the word itself is filled with loads of special secrets you can’t help but try to take it all in as you play.
The gameplay of the game follows a simple time loop system that many games have used in the past, but is unique in its own ways. Kulebra is stuck repeating the same day and none of the souls in Limbo remember that they’ve lived this day again and again. Fortunately, Kulebra is special and he’s able to remember what occurred the day before. You can jump between different times of the day in order to accomplish specific tasks, repeating it the next day if you’re not able to complete your goal that day.
I was impressed by how friendly the game’s puzzles were. They were easy, persay, but I didn’t struggle very long with them. And I think that’s great because I worry that getting stuck might warrant some players to give up and Kulebra has such a lovely story to tell.
Kulebra and the Souls of Limbo is such a lovely looking game that covers difficult topics in a beautiful way. You’ll likely fall in love with its characters and want to help them find happiness in the afterlife. The game’s puzzles are fun and unique that players of all ages will enjoy solving. Grab this one if you’re looking for a heartwarming adventure that will make you smile.
Kulebra and the Souls of Limbo is available now on Steam.
