Flickshot Rogues is a Brilliantly Exciting Strategy Game
I fell in love with Flickshot Rogues just a few weeks ago when I played the game’s demo for the first time so I was stoked to jump into the full game and see what other secrets it had to offer. While the game is similar to a roguelike, its mechanics are so unlike anything I’ve ever played, as soon as I picked it up it was hard to put back down.
Flickshot Rogues from developer Butter by the Fish turn-based strategy roguelike game where you control characters who are mounted on pucks. Your goal is to destroy your enemies, who are also on pucks, by sliding around the board strategically, gaining loot with every win. You’ll have to be careful though, because your enemies have some tricks up their sleeves.
Each of the game’s characters has their own unique abilities and you can switch between them during battle depending on what you’d like to use. Your first character, for example, does damage by hitting other characters directly. The second character you meet, does damage only after he moves and he does so in an area surrounding him. Later on you’ll meet more unique characters that each have moves that can totally change the game, depending on how you use them.
Like any good roguelike, you’ll be able to upgrade your characters and your gear as you go. Some enemies will award special loot or abilities, you can buy things in the store with your hard earned money, you can even run into random encounters that can event you positively or negatively depending on the outcome. The best part is finding a perfect combo, so that you can hit hard, do massive damage and keep moving on to bigger and better loot.
Each run you start will be different from the last and the more that you play the more than will be unlockable during future runs. It’s truly a great way to keep players coming back for more. Had a terrible run? Just start over and try to strategize a bit better. Take down huge bosses and you just might find the perfect ability to help you turn the tide.
Flickshot Rogues is available now on Steam.
