Abashed Preview - Diving Into an Alternate Reality

If you know anything about our team here at Six One Indie, you know that we’re a huge fan of games that have wonderfully unique concepts and a little hint of horror. And Abashed from solo developer Supantha Paul fits that bill for us 100%. I had the chance to dive into the game’s demo, which is just a short glimpse into what the main game will be like.

Abashed is a 2.5D side-scrolling game where you play as Issac, a man living with psychosis. One day you wake up and find that your partner is missing and set out on a journey to find her. Players will need to confront Issac’s deepest fears and his darkest secrets as he searches far and wide for his partner.

The gameplay mechanics for Abashed are what drew me in the most. In order to bend reality, Issac must consume medication which changes the world around him. Objects move, writing can appear and much more. This forces the player to explore each location thoroughly, and more than once, to try and uncover everything that you need to be able to move on. You’ll find yourself back tracking a bit as you collect objects, solve puzzles and even speak to other characters.

Speaking of puzzles, the game features puzzles that allow you to use your unique ability to solve them. You might find yourself scratching your head at first as you work to solve some of these unique puzzles, but when you get the hang of it, Abashed’s puzzle solutions are fun, unique and interesting.

I can’t say much else about Abashed in order to avoid spoilers - you should really experience it yourself. The game’s demo only took me a short while to complete, but it was just enough to have me wishing there was more. With a truly unique concept, intriguing storyline and fun gameplay mechanics, I can’t wait to jump into the full version of Abashed when it launches next year.

Abashed is available to wishlist on Steam now and you can check out the demo while you’re there.
