1000 Deaths Preview: Defying ALL the Gravities

A few members of the Six One Indie team played an early version of 1000 Deaths at an in-person event a few years ago and it has continued to impress throughout development. I got the chance to play the demo and had a blast with it.

1000 Deaths from Developer Pariah Interactive, Inc. is a 3D platformer adventure game where your choices matter. What you choose will define the levels you’ll complete, the mechanics and the story. Make your way through platforming hubs and decide the fate of your characters!

The demo of the game that I played wasn’t too long, but what I did play was enough to have me wanting to come back for more. At first you’ll play as one of the game’s characters, a strange looking little guy who will make a couple of dialogue choices. Then, you’ll jump into the first level, where you play as a retro looking TV.

When you play as the TV, you can run, jump and dash along the game’s floors, walls and ceilings. Basically, the perspective of the level changes and twists as the gravity reorients itself to create a truly 3D space. It’s a really interesting way to take the 3D platformer genre and turn it, literally, on its head and make it quite unexpected.

The game really reminded me of Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon, where the levels aren’t too tough to start, but the more your progress, the more you really have to plan ahead in order to complete the level.

In the full version of the game, you’ll play as four different characters as you help them make life-altering decisions. Even though I only met a couple of characters during my playthrough of the demo, I can’t wait to see who else I’ll meet in the main game.

1000 Deaths is available to wishlist on Steam right now. You can also download and play the demo while you’re there!
