Muri: Wildwoods Demo Preview | A Relaxing Cleaning Adventure

Cleaning games have exploded in popularity and I am not immune to the dopamine hit of seeing something or someplace once covered in dirt now sparkling clean. Speldosa Interactive’s newest game Muri: Wildwoods provides that same satisfaction and then some. Between the gameplay and the art style, I didn’t want the demo to end.

Muri: Wildwoods is a cute cleaning game where I take the role of a cleaner, named Pelle, equipped with a power washer and supported by my friends on Teamsqueak. I begin Pelle’s first solo mission, to clean a mysterious island of the corruption that's destroying its ecosystem. Landing on the island, the beach covered in corruption, I start my mission. As I washed the last bit of the deep red goop, suddenly nature took over, and the game's art style showed itself as the area bloomed with fantastic flowers and fields of grass. Seeing the world come back to life because of my actions hit differently than the usual “bing” that comes with completely cleaning an item. What made it even better was that the next area had these cute creatures that needed to be cleaned, and once they were, I got to pet them!

My favorite thing about Muri: Wildwoods demo was its approach to collectables. Throughout my journey as Pelle, after cleaning certain things or interacting with the freshly cleaned critters, Pelle would draw them in their sketch book. Yes, you can technically finish a level without cleaning every area of corruption, but then you would miss out on a lot of cute drawings. Once I cleared the corruption and saw nature bring the beauty back to this world, on my way to the next corrupted area was a seat for me. Instead of a time-lapse showing the corruption disappearing, I get to sit and enjoy the scenery and noises of this freshly cleaned part of the island. For me, this was the game telling me to stop and smell the roses. I’m here to bring nature back, so why shouldn’t I get to sit and enjoy what it has to offer?

Muri: Wildwoods demo is available currently on Steam. While there is no release date yet, you can wishlist the game like I did to stay up to date on future updates.
